Epic dryrobe moments of 2019

6 minute read

It’s been another amazing year in #dryrobeterritory. Not only have we been fortunate enough to have worked with some incredible individuals, events and partners but we’re also proud to have supported some inspirational charities and organisations throughout the year.

It was very hard to choose, but here are just some of the epic moments that rocked us in 2019...

Cal Major’s Magical Northern Lights SUP
In January environmental campaigner and dryrobe ambassador, Cal Major fulfilled her dream of SUPing under the Northern Lights in Norway. This stunning film from James Appleton captures the beauty and tranquillity of this amazing adventure.

Surfers Not Street Children
This amazing charity does incredible work keeping kids off the street in South Africa and Mozambique through a combination of social care and surfing. We’re proud to support them and the vital work they do. Back in July we helped send some of the young women on their Girls Surf Too program to the JBay Open and the WSL Rising Tides event. They not only got to experience the event, but got to meet some of their surfing heroes including Kelly Slater!

Teaming up with Red Bull
Red Bull really know how to put on unique sporting competitions and we were stoked to be able to supply dryrobes to some of their truly epic events. Not only did we continue to provide winners of Neptune Steps in both the UK and Sweden with custom dryrobes, but for the first time we were on hand at Timelaps the brutal 25-hour cycling challenge, Quicksand gruelling one-mile obstacle race across the sands of Margate beach and the insane downhill mountain bike race Hardline.

Jon Albon’s world domination continues
How do you follow up a year of totally dominating your chosen sports? You do it all again and then some! After an epic 2018 that saw him win big in obstacle course racing, dryrobe ambassador Jon Albon took it up a notch and not only retained the OCR World Championship title for the 6th time, but in July was crowned World Trail Running Champion at a thrilling race in Mirandha do Corvo in Portugal. We can’t wait to see what Jon does in 2020.

Swimrise with the Happy Pear
In May we headed to Greystones in Ireland to visit our friends the Happy Pear and experience one of their huge Swimrise events, and we were not disappointed! Getting in the sea with a thousand like-minded swimmers to watch the sunrise was really something else.

ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship
At the end of August, we headed to the Stockholm Archipelago, Sweden to watch the incredible ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship. The world’s best swimrunners took on a combined 75km of trail running and open water swimming at the birthplace of Swimrun. It was amazing to follow one of the toughest endurance races up close.

APP World Tour
Watching the very best SUP racers compete in some of the most iconic cities in the world? Count us in! We were lucky enough to catch all the action on the APP World Tour events in London, New York and Paris, they did not disappoint. We’re stoked to have supplied the winners of the events with custom APP dryrobes as well as all the competitors taking on the brutal Red Bull Heavy Water race in San Francisco.

Stand Up To Cancer’s inspirational Sink or Swim Challenge
Earlier this year non-swimming celebrities took on the challenge of a lifetime: swimming the English Channel! Previously they either had a fear of open water or had been taught to swim when they were younger up but now struggled to. With the help of dryrobe ambassador Ross Edgley and Olympic swimmer Keri-anne Payne the celebrities faced their fears head-on and took this enormous task to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

We’re honoured to have supplied custom dryrobes to the celebrities to help them with their training and during the event.

Rea Kolbl bringing home the Spartan Ultra World Championship title
In November dryrobe ambassador Rea Kolbl headed to Åre in Sweden with one goal: to bring home the Spartan Ultra World Championship crown! After racing for 24 hours and completing an incredible 70 miles, 350 obstacles clocking a huge 28,000ft of elevation gain, Rea won the Women’s race in emphatic style. Truly epic stuff.

Surfing The Wave
“I never could have imagined this when I was growing up!” dryrobe Ambassador Oli Adams’ words when he first set eyes on The Wave in Bristol a world-first, inland surfing destination, which opened in November. This is the first wave pool in the world to use Wavegarden Cove technology and creates huge opportunities for the surfing community in UK. We’re stoked to be the official changing robe partner of The Wave and can’t wait to get back in the water there soon!

Children In Need’s Rickshaw Challenge

This year’s Rickshaw Challenge saw a team of six young people and the One Show’s Matt Baker take on on an eight-day challenge to cycle 400 miles from Holyhead to London, raising money for Children in Need. We’re proud to have supported Team Rickshaw with dryrobes to keep them warm on their epic challenge that saw them raise an incredible £8.5 million for charity!

Wave Project
Since 2010 the Wave Project has been changing the lives of vulnerable young people with mental health issues, learning difficulties or physical disabilities across the UK using surf therapy. We’re so proud to have partnered up with this incredible charity and produced a limited edition Wave Project dryrobe, with 100% of the profits from each sale going support all the great work they do.

The dryrobe community
Our favourite moments of 2019 though have been all the fantastic support we continued to receive from dryrobe users across the world! We love seeing the epic adventures you guys get up to with your dryrobes and share with us using the #dryrobeterritory hashtag, this really motivates and inspires us all here on a daily basis. Thank you all!
